Lot clearing, brush clearing, and acreage clearing are all names people use for land clearing services. Site preparation is the step after clearing: grading and a gravel pad. Forestry mulching is one specific method — a machine with a mulching head grinds the material in place rather than removing it — which is different from our roots-out, haul-away approach.

What is the best way to clear heavy brush?

For heavy brush and blackberry, pulling out the root crowns with a machine — a mini excavator or skid steer — is the method that lasts. Mowing, brush-cutting, and mulching cut back what you can see but leave the roots to resprout. Heavy brush is exactly where root removal earns its cost.

Do you use a bobcat or an excavator?

Both, depending on the site. A mini excavator with a grubbing attachment is our main tool for pulling roots. A skid steer — what most people call a bobcat — suits some ground and some access better. We look at the site first and bring what fits; you don't have to pick the machine.

Can you clear where a machine can't get in?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A hand crew with brush cutters and chainsaws does what the machine can't reach, roots included, and carries the material out to the trailer. Hand work is slower, so we flag it at the site visit and price it in before we start.

Can you just cut it all down and leave it?

Accepted Answer

Yes — that's a cut-and-drop, and it's the lowest-cost option. We knock everything down, by machine or by hand, and leave it where it lies: no root removal, no hauling. It opens up a view or a fence line quickly, but the roots stay, so brush comes back and cut blackberry canes can re-root. We'll tell you plainly whether it suits your ground.

What does site prep include?

Everything in a full clearing — cut, roots dug out, all material hauled to commercial green waste — then the site preparation: ground graded, crushed gravel brought in, spread, and compacted into a solid, well-draining pad. It's the option for a parking or RV pad, a shop or shed base, a working yard, or ground about to get turf or a build.

We're putting a shop on the pad. Does anything need to go in first?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes. Conduit for power, a water line, and drainage under the pad all have to go in the ground before we compact and backfill — once the pad is finished, opening it again is expensive. Those are additional services we discuss at the consultation, then scope, line up the trades for, and project-manage alongside the site prep, so it runs as one sequence instead of three visits.
