How wide should a walkway be?

Front entrance walkways should be at least 1.2m (4 feet) — wide enough for two people side by side. Garden and side-yard paths work at 600-900mm (2-3 feet). We size each path to its traffic: the walk guests use gets the width, the path to the compost bin doesn't need it.

Can walkways be curved?

Yes, and they usually should be — a gentle curve reads more naturally in a garden than a dead-straight line, and pavers handle curves beautifully because each stone is cut to the arc. Curves also let the path work around trees, beds, and grade changes instead of fighting them.

Is a small walkway job worth your time?

Yes. Walkways are smaller-scope than driveways and patios, and we price them quickly — often bundled with other work, but standalone paths are welcome. A front walk is a one-to-three-day project with an outsized effect on how the house presents.

What about moss and algae on shaded paths?

It's the Lower Mainland — shade plus rain grows moss on everything. Pavers handle it better than most surfaces: hardened polymeric joints give moss less to root in, and the surface takes a stiff-broom scrub or careful pressure wash without damage. An annual spring clean keeps a shaded path presentable.
